Still have a plaster cast ship from Geboom at Tactica 2010 without any detail. Had it in a airsealed plastic bag with a slightly wet sponge – and although the Tactica is almost 2 weeks ago I can still carve the plaster.
Not as good as Geboom, but I´m learning

Geboom´s ship
found almost the right plaster mix ratio
50:40 (that´s almost double the amount of water than it´s normally used for this Class 2)
but works quite well. Ok, maybe a bit more water, but good enough for trying.
plaster casting
Dental Plaster Class 2
mix ratio according to specs: 100:46 plaster/water
tried 50:23 no good, too hard
tried 50:30 no good, too hard (although better than with 23)
next try tonight will be with 50:40
only have 1kg

sample from the Tactica Workshop
This is a sample plaster carved piece for three structures that I madeat the Tactica convention in February:
Flagstone, Wood and Copplestone.
very quick paintjob just to pick out the detail (and not even a good base coat, just quick quick at the convention… tsts…)
plaster carving mania
ok, those are my molds for plain rectangular plaster blocks.
While doing the workshop with Geboom everything looked way easier that it is for me now
NetTerrain blog online again
After quite a while I decided to start over with a NetTerrain blog again to keep you up to date on what I´m working on.
After the http://www.hamburger-tactica.de/ in February and attending a small workshop held by Geboom (http://www.shiftinglands.com/) on plaster carving I´m trying my luck, too. Not with that much of a success, to be honest.
My dental plaster (a class 4 from Picodent) is way too hard, my new sample Class 2 is apparently too hard, either. I´ll try mixing other plaster/water ratios to come to the same “creamy” plaster Geboom used – we´ll see how it works out.
I´d love to see some comments in here
Harald
