Tools   Werkzeug
Visit Micromark the on-line source for hard-to-find tools and accessories for hobby, professional and educational model building !

screwdriver   Schraubenzieher
use old ones for various purposes. You can open old paint cans (no spray paint please!), carve detail in plaster, punch holes in foamcard, I guess you get the idea :)   Alte Schraubenzieher kann man für ziemlich vieles beim Basteln verwenden.

Hot-Glue-Pistol   Heißklebe-Pistole
you can get these in pretty much every hardware and D-I-Y-store and in assorted hobby stores as well. IMHO there´s absolutely nothing to replace them. Actually I can´t even imagine doing terrain without one. One of these thingies heat a stick of glue and you can then squirt it on whatever place you like. It creates a real tough bond, adheres to almost anything and sets in a matter of seconds. You can also use it to create sludge oozing out of broken pipes, in barrels etc. Every Pump Station is enhanced by a set of drinking straws that are spewing sludge.
Get one with 9mm sticks, the smaller ones aren´t really that useful.

Metal saw   Metallsäge
for cutting metal pieces without danger of slipping with your knife. If you are using brass tubing and want to alter shape, you should really consider buying one, as it makes the whole process way easier and safer.

LeadCutter   Blechschere
heavy scissors for cutting cable, mesh and thick artist´s  or poster card. Not that easy to use, but they get through everything... believe me...

Use the ones where you can break away old, dull blades. Replacement blades are not that expensive. Remember, whenever cutting something takes more effort that it actually should, break away the old blade and loo, there it goes with new energy. Way safer that way, too!

also known as Elmer´s Glue or PVA Glue. It´s that sticky white stuff, that takes an eternity to set, but has plenty of uses. You can of course glue most stuff together, as it adheres to pretty much everything that there is, it only is a matter of patience. The stuff dries clear, so you can even use it for small puddles of water or sludge. And by using a mixture of white glue, sand and water you can easily base your miniatures and terrain. We use Ponal   Wir benutzen Ponal

Super Glue   Sekundenkleber
be careful when using that stuff! It creates a bond in mere seconds. My tiny flask is quite a lot of superglue in relation to money (which is not always so... you really don´t have to get the most expensive brand in town), so I tend to use superglue in those occasions, when I really need something to adhere somewhere and can´t get white glue of a hot glue gun, e.g. ´cause it´s too fiddely. When using superglue in larger amounts, it takes pretty long to set... and chances are really good, that you forget about it and either stick you fingers to some piece of terrain quite permanently... or you get one of your better brushes unfortunately in contact with that place and that was then another brush for the waste bin... so you better be careful :)

    2-Komponenten-Kleber

Hole Punch   Locher
for making those Gothic fencings. On http://www.terragenesis.co.uk you can find a description on how to make them   um gotische Verzierungen zu machen. Auf http://www.terragenesis.co.uk kann man dafür eine Beschreibung finden

Hole_Punch.jpg (3487 Byte)

Clipper   Seitenschneider
for holding, breaking and generally wreaking havoc. Actually wreaking havoc is fun with them, as (please be careful!) you can break pieces out of some plastic bulkhead to resemble batte damage, bend some miniatures arm the other way, snap of miniatures heads to use them for terrain decorating (weren´t they meant for that the first way ?) and thousand other uses.

Scissors   Schere
for cutting cardboard etc. DO NOT take your mum´s/girlfriend´s/wife´s, take some old ones or get some cheap ones at a D-I-Y-store. You are sure to ruin even the best pair of scissors in a very short time, and if you take your mum´s best one and she can´t get a straight cut after that... well, you get the idea. If you try to cut anything and you aren´t able to do it easily, use some other way but don´t force it ! Use a sharp hobby knife or some lead cutter instead.

How to make Wargames Terrain
a great book by GamesWorkshop, in which lots of terrain building tips are compiled. But more valuable are those masses of pictures of GW terrain... you really get inspirations while reading this book. Also, if you can get a hold on the White Dwarf, check´em out... neatest stuff I´ve ever seen ! But remember this: those people do this more or less all day long and they get paid and can get hold of all the neat plastic sprues or other articles... we try to make stunning terrain in our spare time and with minimum spent money... so if maybe your homemade terrain does not look as great, still you did something with your hands and you should be proud of yourself !

Dremel   Dremel
the company Dremel is just the most famous producer of this neat little toy. It can drill, cut, you can polish metal, seperate metal and plastic miniatures... in short, one of those essential toys for handling bigger projects. It can really cut down the time you spend building something. You should be able to get a Dremel (or something comparable) at any better DIY-shop or in Germany at Baumärkten (e.g. Bahr oder Praktiker)
Have a look at Proxxon, they have other very useful stuff, too

Lego Blocks   Lego Bausteine
Besides being lots of fun when you are too bored to actually build stuff from foamcard and balsa wood, Lego blocks are great for building the walls around an object, that you are going to cover with Latex Milk. The Latex Milk will not adhere to the Lego blocks, so once it is dried, you can just pull the mould off and use the blocks again for the next project. Lego blocks aren´t that expensive, maybe you can even "borrow" some of your small brother or your kids. !!!Before giving them back, wash them thorougly !!!

Plastic glue   Plastik-Kleber
For glueing your plastic miniatures together and adding stuff from the Skeleton boxed Set, the best source for BitzBoxes :)  I use not the Citadel glue, but one from Faller, a model railway company. But it´s basically the same stuff, so whoever you want to support...

THE ultimate help in building scenery !
We´ve got ours from England as a present.
From Proxxon you can get a stationary system, too, but that´s not really useable for anything else but straight cuts.
